Thirty-one years have passed since the Khojaly genocide, one of the most terrible pages in the history of Azerbaijan. This bloody event, which revealed the inner face of Armenian fascism to the world, is a historical crime directed not only against the people of Azerbaijan, but against humanity.

Panah Muradov, General Director of the Institute of Microbiology of the Ministry of Science and Education, corresponding member of ANAS, said this in his statement to AZERTAJ. He said that among the bloody crimes and massacres committed by Armenian terrorists as a result of the policy of ethnic cleansing and genocide against our people, the Khojaly tragedy stands out for its special cruelty. The razing of the city of Khojaly in one night, the killing of innocent people, not to mention women, children and the elderly, just because they are Azerbaijanis, confirms that this massacre is a genocide. For the first time, the legal and political assessment of the Khojaly tragedy was given by our National Leader Heydar Aliyev. On the initiative of the Great Leader, on February 24, 1994, the Milli Mejlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan passed a decision on "Khojali Genocide Day" and announced the true nature of this massacre to the world nations. It is as a result of the large-scale information work carried out in this direction that the world community already accepts that this tragedy is a genocide. Thus, the Khojaly genocide was recognized at the level of international legal norms. Relevant resolutions condemning the Khojaly genocide have been adopted in the legislative bodies of more than twenty states of the United States.

"Today, I can proudly say that Azerbaijan's great Victory in the 44-day Patriotic War was a lesson for the terrorist Armenians that they will not forget. Our heroic Army, who showed unparalleled bravery in the war, took revenge for the victims of the Khojaly tragedy under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief, and the blood of our martyrs did not remain on the ground. The people of Azerbaijan always cherish the memory of the heroes who died for the territorial integrity of our land, hundreds of our compatriots who were killed in Khojaly, and remember them with respect," said P. Muradov.
