An online meeting on the topic “Coordinated management of science for the development of the agrarian sector” has brought together the officials of the Agrarian Science and Innovation Center (ASIC) of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan (MA), Department of Biological and Medical Sciences of ANAS, management of research institutes, heads of departments and laboratories, including scientists and specialists.
Opening the event, Farman Karimov, Deputy Director for Science, Ph.D. in Biology, has informed the participants about the structure of the institution he represents and the goals of the event and spoke about the priorities of agricultural research in Azerbaijan.
Then, the vice-president of ANAS, academician Irada Huseynova has expressed her gratitude to the leadership of ASIC for taking the initiative to hold the meeting. She spoke about the importance of the meeting of the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan Inam Karimov at ANAS and the "Agreement of Intent" concluded between ANAS and MA and the imperative issues arising from it. She also has drawn attention to the joint activities of relevant research institutions, emphasizing that ensuring food security in the country depends on the organization of coordination of agricultural research. Academician Irada Huseynova noted that after long discussions with the Ministry of Agriculture, 27 projects have already been selected for joint implementation by the institutions of both institutions, and 4 of them were selected for initial funding. He also underlined that after the liberation of our lands as a result of the 44-day war, it is possible to reconsider the priorities for joint research.
During discussions, corresponding members of ANAS Zeynal Akparov and Panah Muradov, Doctors of Biological Sciences Eldar Novruzov, Ramiz Aliyev, Sayyara Ibadullayeva, Doctor of Agrarian sciences Mustafa Mustafayev, Ph.D. in Biology Alamdar Mammadov, Ph.D. in Agrarian sciences Goshgar Mammadov and others from ANAS, corresponding member of ANAS Ibrahim Jafarov, Director of the Center for Agrarian Research, Ph.D. in Economics Firdovsi Fikretzadeh, head of the Department of Organization and Coordination of Science of the ASIC, Ph.D. in Agrarian Sciences Javanshir Talai, Director of the Veterinary Research Institute, Doctor of Veterinary Sciences Siala Rustamova, Director of the Agricultural Research Institute, Ph.D. in Agrarian Sciences Faig Khudayev and other officials from MA side have participated in the discussions and shared opinions about the agreements signed between the institutes, joint research on mutual projects, main priorities for such research, and strengthening coordination.
Some participants of the meeting suggested the establishment of a permanent working group for improving the development and coordination of new joint projects, and outsourcing for funding.
Summing up the event, academician Irada Huseynova stressed the importance of continuing bilateral and multilateral discussions and expressed confidence that by conducting joint scientific research using the scientific capacity of ANAS, valuable contributions will be made to the development of the agrarian sector.
