On October 25, the General meeting of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences was held.
An election for the position of ANAS president was carried out at the event.
Academician Arif Hashimov proposed the nominee of Academician Isa Habibbayli for the post of president of ANAS.
Academicians Akif Alizadeh, Ismayil Hajiyev, Zemfira Safarova, Kamal Abdullayev and corresponding member of ANAS Misir Mardanov spoke about the nominee for the presidency of ANAS and spoke about Academician Isa Habibbayli's rich scientific-organizational activity, the works and personal merits of Academician Isa Habibbayli in the realm of integration and development of science and education and supported his candidacy.
Later, an election for the position of ANAS president was held by secret ballot. In order to hold the vote, a counting commission was formed, chaired by Academician Fakhraddin Gadirov, and consisting of Academicians - Nargiz Akhundova, Telman Aliyev, Ismayil Hajiyev and Nazim Mammadov.
Later, Academician Fakhraddin Gadirov announced the results of the voting.
According to the results of the voting, Academician Isa Habibbeyli was unanimously elected the new president of ANAS.
