The General Meeting of the Department of Biological and Medical Sciences (DBS) of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences was carried out.
Opening the online meeting, Vice-President of ANAS, Academician Irada Huseynova spoke about the importance of the adoption of the Shusha Declaration on allied relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Turkey. Emphasizing the significance of the Shusha Declaration coinciding with June 15 - National Salvation Day and the 100th anniversary of the Kars Agreement, academician Irada Huseynova praised the document as another success of the great leader's political line successfully pursued by President Ilham Aliyev.
The chairman of the meeting then acquainted the participants with the current issues.
The first issue was the election of the Director General of the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of ANAS. Academician Irada Huseynova noted that in accordance with the presentation of the President of ANAS and the decision of the Presidium of ANAS dated January 8, 2021, corresponding member of ANAS Alovsat Guliyev is nominated for this position.
Academician Irada Huseynova informed the participants about the candidate's life, scientific and organizational activities. She said that Alovsat Gulush oglu Guliyev worked as a teacher and head of the department at the Nakhchivan State Pedagogical Institute (Nakhchivan State University) from 1973 to 2015. From 2015 to present, he is the director of the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of ANAS. The scientist received the degree of Doctor of Agrarian Sciences in 2008, the title of Professor in 2011, and in 2017 was elected a corresponding member of ANAS. The main scientific achievements were the reclamation of lands in the irrigated lands of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on the basis of experimental results on re-salinization and ways to combat it. Alovsat Guliyev has significant merits in the study of Azerbaijani kahriz. He is the author of more than 160 scientific works (49 abroad), including 12 books and 2 textbooks.
Academician Jamil Aliyev, academician Tariyel Talibov, corresponding member of ANAS Zeynal Akparov, corresponding member of ANAS Tofig Mammadov, corresponding member of ANAS Amin Ismayilov and others spoke at the discussions and praised the scientific-organizational activity of Alovsat Guliyev.
Then, corresponding member of ANAS Alovsat Guliyev was elected as the Director General of the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry by open voting and it was decided to submit a petition to the Presidium of ANAS for approval.
Afterwards, Academician Irada Huseynova informed about the decision of the Presidium of ANAS dated June 10, 2021 "On the tasks arising from the appeal, speeches and decisions of the General Meeting of ANAS dated May 27, 2021 to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev". She made speech about the work to be done by the relevant departments.
Then other issues on the agenda were discussed. Academician Irada Huseynova informed about the great success of the online conference dubbed "Karabakh Biodiversity, Soil and Water Resources: Past, Present and Future" organized by the department on May 20-21, 2021.
At the end of the meeting, it was decided to approve Ph.D. in Biology Ismayil Ismayilov as the head of the International Laboratory of Proteomics of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnologies of ANAS, partial changes in the Scientific Council of the Institute of Physiology named after Abdulla Garayev.
