Our tricolor flag was approved as the state flag of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on November 17, 1990 at the session initiated and led by the chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, national leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev. Under the leadership of the national leader, the people of Azerbaijan were reunited 70 years later with their tricolor symbol of independence.
On February 5, 1991, by the decision of the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan, the current tricolor and moon-star flag was declared the state flag of the independent republic.
