An event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was held at the Institute of Microbiology of ANAS.
The event commenced with a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide.
Speaking at the event, Director General of the Institute, corresponding member of ANAS Panah Muradov said that the Khojaly genocide was one of the most ruthless crimes against humanity of the XX century, one of the most brutal acts of terrorism. He noted that the massacre in Khojaly on February 26, 1992 was a continuation of the policy of aggression, ethnic cleansing and genocide pursued by the Armenian nationalists against the Azerbaijani people. During the tragedy, 613 civilians were killed with special cruelty, 1,275 people, mostly elderly people, women and children, were taken prisoner, and the fate of 150 of them is still unknown. The scientist noted that the legal and political assessment of the tragedy was given by national leader Heydar Aliyev for the first time, and the Milli Majlis adopted a resolution on "Khojaly Genocide Day" on February 24, 1994 at the initiative of the Great Leader.
Muradov said that the memory of the Khojaly genocide is different from previous years. Against the background of the forty-four-day war and the liberation of our lands, the victims of Khojaly were avenged. However, despite the fact that 30 years have passed since the tragedy, he noted that today is an incurable wound in the memory of the nation.
